The Perfect Day For A Run

The Perfect Day For A Run

A couple of Sundays ago I went for a run. It’s no big deal, I’ve been running several times a week for years now. But a couple of Sundays ago it almost didn’t happen. I looked outside and saw rainswept streets, opened the window and felt the chill wind blowing. It was as if mid-August was in the shop for repairs, replaced by a grey October morning. Not exactly inviting.

I didn’t feel fit for a run either. My body wasn’t hurting, but it was more than a little grumpy and I felt every bit the middle-aged former smoker.

If I’m being honest, my mind also wasn’t right. A few stresses had taken over recently and I woke up that day feeling a bit fed up.

Put it all together and it was far too easy for me to say “I’ll take the day off and run tomorrow…or maybe the next day.”

And as soon as I heard that inner voice start to pipe up with an excuse, I knew – it was the perfect day for a run. Not because I needed the exercise, but because I needed the run.

Running Isn’t Exercise

Ok, OF COURSE running is exercise. But it goes so far beyond that. It’s therapy, an escape, an expression of joy and determination. Running isn’t normal, but it’s completely natural. You just lace up your shoes and head out the door. So simple, but sometimes so complex.

That’s because running is more than physical. It starts in your head before it goes to your feet. With running, the right mindset can drive our success and offer the greatest rewards.

So, on a rainy, chilly morning two days ago, it was mind, body, and soul that carried me step by step, until finally, I returned to the shelter of my doorway, soaked to the bone, my legs shaking. It felt AMAZING.

The beauty of running is that it can give us whatever we want, and that day it gave me a victory, a clear head, and yes, a nice bit of exercise.

We Run Together

There are a lot of people like me out there, who need running for more than the numbers on an app or race ribbons on the wall. And there are many more people like I used to be, who know they want to do something good for themselves but aren’t sure how or where to start.

These are the people I’m excited to talk to and hear from. I want to create stories that meet them where they are, no matter where they are, and help them see that today is the perfect day for a run.
